Learning To Do Basic Yoga Inversion: Crow Pose
There are a lot of benefits to learning how to do inversions in yoga – more flexibility, greater strength, increased confidence, and, on an energetic level, a better connection to pranic flow. Unfortunately, most people find inversions very intimidating, either because of the physical aspects required to get into them or because of mental and emotional blocks that keep us from trusting ourselves. One of the best inversions for beginners to spend time learning is Crow Pose. This posture teaches you how to balance, how to engage your core while correctly using your shoulder girdle, and provides you with the foundations you need to move onto more challenging inversions, which will open your mind and body even more. In this video the instructor demonstrates how an easier pose, which she refers to as Frog Pose, can be used as prep work for Crow. She advises using a yoga block to help students who are combating fears that emerge while transitioning into this balancing pose. It’s important to remember that in any yoga pose the most important aspect is not getting into the “final pose” but about being mindful throughout the journey. It’s easy to get frustrated and give up if you focus only on the end result. So take your time as your work up to Crow Pose. Remember that there are lots of pieces to this pose so it’s okay if you don’t get it right away (most people don’t!). Most of all – have fun!
